10th Triennial
Great Magnolia Homecoming

The parade
Words are useless when it comes to describing what it meant for me to attend the 10th Great Magnolia Homecoming in Moss Point, Mississippi. I was able to attend the parade and the banquet on July 3 and thoroughly enjoyed both. Whether we spoke to each other or not, seeing some folks that I had not seen since the late sixties or early seventies made my heart smile.

The ball
It will take a moment to put together all of the photos and video that the Mississippi Traveler, along with Abbie Huckleby and Terry Potts, captured during this event. Look for a report of this visit in August.
The homecoming was hosted by the Magnolia High School Alumni Association, Inc.

Mississippi
Traveler
2010 Travel
Schedule
|
With travel
being very
light in
2009, the
Mississippi
Traveler
plans to
visit
several
Mississippi
towns in
2010.
The first
town on the
list is
Clarksdale
in April and
the Traveler
is very
excited
about that.
The Yazoo
City trip
got
cancelled in
2009 and
will be
added to the
2010
schedule.
Magnolia
High School
in Moss
Point will
be having
their famous
Purple and
Gold
celebration
in July and
the Traveler
plans to be
there.
During that
same trip,
Vancleave
will be
revisited to
get a better
look at the
big spreads
and horses
in that
town.
The blues
scene is in
high gear by
June so the
Traveler
will head
that way for
a few days
stay in
Indianola
and swing by
Moorhead and
Greenwood.
The year
will wind
down with a
visit to
Crystal
Springs just
because.
If God is
willing, the
Traveler
will be
rolling all
year long.

George
Holland
Mayor of
Moorhead

Honorable George Holland
|
George Holland has ended
up right back where he
first started, but in
the best of ways.
Having grown up in
Moorhead and moving away
to live in St. Louis,
Missouri, for many
years, Holland has
returned to his hometown
and become its Mayor.
The Mississippi Traveler
met with Mayor Holland
and his beautiful wife
Johnna in early June and
was treated to some of
Mississippi's finest
hospitality. What
was expected to be a short chat and a couple of photographs turned out to be an
intimate conversation followed by lunch and a town tour. The Hollands
could not have made the
Traveler feel more
welcome and their
graciousness was most
appreciated. . .

What's
wrong with these nuts that drive slow in the fast lane? Did
anybody ever tell them about the unwritten rules of the road -- like the
fast lane is not for driving the speed limit, let alone going 10 and 20
miles under. It's enough to make you want to chunk a rock through
their windshield! These jerks don't have any place to go and they
don't want you going anywhere either. They make me mad
enough to throw a tea party!
